Five informations were to-day sworn against a well-known and heretofore highly esteemed resident of thw city, charfjing him with having embezzled sums amounting m ' the aggregate 7 fo' about £1200, received by him m his capacity as local agent for a fire and life insurance company carrying-on business m this eitv, but having its head quarters m Australia. The name has not been allowed to be made public, and no warrant has been issued. It is understood, however, that summonses have been issued and aeensed called upon to aaswer the charges on the 10th May,
