LATER DEVELOPMENTS.
JOSHUA JONES COMMITTED FOB CONTEMPT OF COURT.
The hearing of. the charge against the New Plymouth justices was suspended on Tuesday by the complainant being committed for contempt of court for seven days; He had called Mr McKeever as a witness, when the following took place :— "W. McKeever deposed — I am an auctioneer, residing m New Plymouth. I heard bells being rung on the occasion of the trial of Corkhill v. Jones, and a person calling out. ' ' < His Worship— l will not hear anything of the kind. It is not evidence what any scoundrel may say outside of the court while ringing a bell. Air Jones— That's it. Lour Worship calls people scoundrels and lunatics, and lam sorry to hear it. Yoa degrade the bench more than you degrade me. His Worship said he could not permit Mr Jones to insult the court m this way. Nothing could excuse such a gross insult, and he would order Mr Jones to be imprisoned for 7 days." After some further talk, Mr Jones was taken into custody and sent to gaol for seven days.
