Mr Stout was warmly cheered on making; his appearance. He, defended. the measures brought m last session, and said that notwithstanding the severe depression the Government would. nVet . the House with a surplus of £37.000.: Their future policy wonld be to push on public works with prudence and as -speedily as practicable. . A /vote of thanks was proposed, coupled with confidsnee m the Government, which was carried, amidst confusion, by . a good majority. A large number of hands were held up against it
