A letter was read from the Standard office regarding the action of the Secretary pro tern, Mr F. Pirani, who had taken upon himself to advertise that meeting in the 2 imes, without having the coartesy to offer the Standard the privilege of inserting on the same terms at which the latter paper had published the first meeting, viz., gratuitously. The Chairman of the meeting did not see why both papers should not be placed on the same basis, and expressed a hope that no party spirit of this kind would be introduced at the starting of the Society, which, if such were allowed, would certainly affect its success. The Mayor also spoke on the matter and strongly objectod to any difference being made between the two papers ; in his opinion they should both be treated alike. On the motion of Mr Partridge, seconded by Mr Ferguson, it was resolved that the advertising of the Society be equally distributed between the two local papers. The following were elected Games and Ground Committee -.—Messrs Bentley, Cowper, Leggirtwood, Mowlem, W. T. Woods, W. Fenton, Littlejohn, Partridge, Flood, and Cohen. The question of remuneration to Secretary for his services was discussed, and the following motion was proposed by the Mayer and seconded by Mr Walkley — That -the Secretary receive 50 per cent, of the net proceeds remaining after all the expenses of the meeting had been paid. •Mr Shortt moved as an amendment that the sum (guaranteed) £5 ss, an ] if the meeting was a financial success a further sum of the same amount. The amendment was carried on the casting vote of the Chairman. It was resolved that the Mayor arid Messrs Walkley and Bentley be re- ' quested to wait on the various Friendly Societies in reference to arranging a transfer of the annual sports meeting to the Caledonian' Society.
