London, April 19. • The Government Land Purchase Scheme provides that the Imperial Re-ceiver-General shall receive rents of purchased properties, and that the same shall be a first charge on the Irish revenue. The Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company have completed arrangements by which vessels on passage from London will pass through the Suez Canal, without touching any places en route, thus avoiding the quarantine imposed by the Egyptian authorities. Arrived— Easterhill, Jan. 7th ; Himalaya, Jan. sth ; both from Port Chalmers. Constantinople. April 19. Replies have been received from the French and Italian Governments m reference to the Greek question intimating their intention to adopt a similar line of action to that meditated by the Empires. Adklaide, Monday. The Messageries Maritimes Oc^aneic, arrived this afternoon, with the English mails, dated March Bth. Sydney, Monday. Telegrams from Lithgow announce that a disastrous explosision occurred' this afternoon at Lithgow colliery company's pit which took fire a short time ago. At the time of the explosion 10 men \vere*inthe working,five were killed, and the rest were rescue/I alive.
