School Committee.
Meeting of the School Committee held at Central School, last evening. - Present — Messrs Leary, (chairman), Wood roof e, Stewart, Walton, Hoskiney and Hawkins. The minutes of last meeting read and ■'■ confirmed. : /. -..-. ' (''■ The Chairman reported that- he hid authorised Mr Guthrie. to order blinds and other articles mentioned m his last report. The Cahjrman reported that after paying expenses there remained £15 8s 6d to credit trom the school entertainment which he had paid into the Bank. The gross proceeds were £19 9s 6d, and expenses £4 Is. ; . ; . I The Chairman palled attention to an old minute passed by the Board that £ for £ would be given by the Board for any monies raised outside capitation. It was proposed by Mr Stewart,seconded by Mr Hosking— That the Chairman make application to the Board for a remittance of £19 9s 6d m accordance with the above minute extant of the Board.— Carried. Letter from Board re Miss Irvine and Mrs Biss dated 13th March was read and received. . - - > Letter from Board of the 30ta' 'March, further m reference to Miss Biss' ' remuneration was also 'read And received. - — . ; Tbe report for the month of the Central School, also report for the month of Terrace End School were read. CBNTBAIi SCHOOL. The master reported the average attendance higher than for last month. Average, 261 ; number on roll. 348. The probationer was finally removed on the Blßt ult. Some repairs to hlinds and rollers has been effected. A supply of firewood required for the winter months. TERRACE END SCHOOL. ou any one day 154. Miss Irvine commenced duties as assistant mistress on 22nd March, and Mrs Biss left on the Ist inst. The school is now entitled to another pupil teacher, which appointment should be made b^ the Board forthwith. One or two requisites aud repairs were applied for. As to the firewood required by Mr Watson for winter months, It was resolved to ; advertise m both papers for 7 cords of; wood for Central School, two foot lengths, viz., 3 cords rata and 4 oords tiatai delivered and stacked, and 5 cords for Terrace End Schobl.twro foot lengths, viz. 2 cords rata and three cords matai delivered and stacked. . i '-• The annual meeting was announced to take-place on Wednesday,- the\2Bth, r m consequence of the holiday? on the Monday and Tuesday m the district. ! Be supply of stationery. The Treasurer reported that he iad carried' out the resolution of committee of Ist February by comparing the prices of. Welch and ! Co. with those) or Park formerly charged j and .found that the prices of Park were i m excess of Welch and Co.'s prices as shown by the list handed m by him, and thai Park having omitted to answor his (the Treasurer's) letter requesting him to furnish prices, '.he had m pur Buanc& of resolution of Committee, written to the teachers to procure supplies of Welch and Co; for the month of March which liad been acted upon. The Committee, expressed approval of the course pursued by the Treasurer.
