' After considerable amount of evidence had been taken, the hearing 1 ot the objections to the . Borough Valuation made by Messrs Nathan and Co., was concluded this afternoon. The Bench decided to grant a reduction nil round of nearly one half. We do not know what the ultima to result of tin's decision will be, 'the Borough solicitor having (Inclined to defent ths case on the ground of informality o.i the part of Messrs Nathan and Go.,- m making out their objection. We presume the Council will however make their claim for rates on the : : original valuation made, and failing to receive Amount m full will take the usual legal proceedings. The case will doubtless cansn a good deal of general interest before it is finally settled, and its progress be eagerly watched by ratepayers m this, and other districts.' Next Easter falls on the latest date on which it possibly can occur, April 25, tinder the rule of the - council of Nice, . which decrees that Easter shall be observed the Sunday after the full moon following March 21. Its earliest possible date is March 22. It is 162 years since Easter Day has been so late. It will not again fall on that day till 1948.—^Ekchange. The Otago Daily Times says tfrtff m consequence of the long-coVufyiM drought there has been for som'o considerable time past very little flow of water m the Tokomairiro river. The . result is that the action of the tides has raised a bar across its mouth, and now that the river has begun to rise with the recent rains, fear« are entertained that very serious damage will, be done. Already the water has risen to an alarming >xt?nt, and the crops m the neighborhood have been completely destroyed, though one or two settlors interested have employed a . large number of men for the purpose of dealing the outlet. ■
