(BY TELEGRAPH.) (Post Correspondent.) Masterton, Wednesday. The Wairarapa East County Council have given their staff, an Irishman's rise by reducing the Engineer's salary from £472 to £372, Clerk from, £250 to £200, the day labourers from 7s to 6s, and giving the Assistant Engineer notice that his services will be dispensed with. The proposal that the Mayor of Mas terton should lay the foundation stone of the gas works has been abandoned, as some of the members of the Council are of opinion that any public ceremony should be postponed until after the works are completed.
