Eefese^ M.H.R.for Stanmore, presided. and;the^ following- resolutions, were .pas^ed^-^- , " Thati'iri the 1 opinion of this mebtihgV no man can maintain himself and family on less than 5s per day', and further, that this' toeetihg desiresi ;the . 6dverri= unent to pay as .much to me.n. on public works m Canterbury as m other parts of the Colony ; . .that , a deputation of seven citizens of Christchurch.be appointed to meet thejPrermer to-morrow at 11, with the Chairman as one ; that we deem it absolntely necessary,in,view ofthe approaching | winter season, that -permanent employ- ! ment should be provided for the labor ing classes, and to this end the establishment of a State Bank, entirely unconnected with any British or foreign quotation for the issue of New Zealand currency, as a circulating medium, is imperative and pressing, and that Parliav ment should be immediately assembled for the purpose of authorising such per- . manent work and the establishment of such bank of issue."
