Mr Ballance intends next session to introduce a bill appfopriating ; 2oo6 acres m various parts of the North Island for landless Maoris. The Government are thinking of. introducing the chamois into New Zealand. Dr Von Haast, will make en-., quiries when at Home as to the cost and feasibility. The neighbouring colonies . have been communicated with and have raised ho objection. Their consent was necessary as the chamois are liable to cattle disease. ■
