THE GALLANT NELSON.

Majof George's^ gallant horse Nelsonhas' wound up" his unparalleled, succession of victories by winning, the great back-end of the racing year,, the Dunedin Cup~. He has now won the following races off the reel :— Auckland Cup, of 1000 sbvs ; Auckland Racing Club Handicap, of 400 soys ; Island Bay Cup, of 400 sovs; Wellington! Cup,, of 650 sovs ; and Dunedin Cup, of 1000 sovs ; total, 3450 soys (with some small, deductions)— not a bad haul for a horse, that might have "been bought for less than £'500 at the beginning of the season; It is said, on good authority, that Major George has won very little in addition to the stakes. The largest winner by Nelson's successes is said to be Colonel Fraser, M.H.R., who has backed him right through, and is reported to have landed over £2000. The crowning victory of Wednesday was not a bloodless one, as Nelson only got home after a determined struggle with Necklace, a daughter of old Musket. The time of the race was not as, first telegraphed 3min 44£sec, but 3utin 54£sec, which.rnakes it l£se6. slower than last year.— Tost.
