— r-« — — Monthly meeting held on Tuesday 23rd February. Present — Messrs Sanson (chair), Bate, Stevens, Fry, Baker, Bridge, and the Bey. Mr Ross. Appointments Committee. — The following business was transacted m committee : — Jackeytown — Mr Rogers was accepted by the committee ; appointment confirmed. Tumkina — -Mr Grant was accepted, and his appointment confirmed. Foxton — Edward Hunt, pupil teacher, resigned on account of giving up the profession ; accepted. The tilling pf this vacancy, and the temporary vac#npy at Warrengate was left to the Inspector*, terrace End — It was resolved to forward the name of Miss : Irvine tor the post of assistant. Foxton. — The Executive Committee reported that, m view cf the change of . ! teachers at Foxton, it was advisable to put the school m a decent state. They therefore recommended (1) new closets ; (2) repairs to spouting ; (3) desks to be mended, cleaned, or replaced where ne.cessary : (4) removal of the partition m the central room ; (#) fche buildings and surroundings generally to bo cleaned up. : To accomplish this' they recommended ; •that the school be closed from the end of the month while repairs were proceed- '; ing, unless a suitable hall could be found., i The architects hiving been instructed to visit and report on this school, recommended fch.9 enlargement $ fi}Q jnggnt

Mr Ross.— Mr Bridge, speaking to the motion, sai.i that lie did not see why the Foxtonpeople should not keep the r own school, m order, and thought the Board should ' not incur the expenditure. — Mr Fry moved as an amendment, that the Board decline lo incur any expenditure on internal arrangements. He believed ■ the Board should confine its operations to mending the desks and attending to the closets and draining:. — Seconded by Mr Bridge. — Mr Bate would support the amendment if it made provision for the removal ot the partition. — Mr liaker pointed out that it would be useless to ask the Foxton Committee to«pay any- > thing, as they would simply shrug; their shoulders and laugh at them.— After further discussion, the amendment was lost. — Mr Bate moved that the partition be removed and lavatories supplied, the rest to be left to the committee, but this was not seconded.— On the motion being put the voting was: — Ayes, Messrs Biker, Stevens, Ross, and Sanson ; Noes, Messrs Bridge, Bate, and Fry. Training College. — The Education Department agreeil to grant £oO each for the attendance of Messrs Tompkins and Martin at the Training College this year, the next year's payment depending .on their conduct. — Resolved that,. ..Messrs Toinpkinsaud Martin be notified of the letter. Building Grant.— The Rev. Mr Ross thonght this would be the time to bring forward a motion that representation be sent to the Minister of Education, that, m conscquenee of the special circumstances m which the Board was placed, a sum of .£IOOO was needed to meet the urgent wants for schools m new districts, the same to be deducted from next year's grant. This was seconded by Mr Bates, and carried. Sanson. — A new pump and piping were asked for by the Committee. — Request complied with. Stanway.— The committe wrote asking for a' second tank. Request agreed to. Feilding.— Requisites for- the Infant room were asked for, and attention called to defecting ventilation.— Mr Baker pointed out that the returns show- . Ed that there were 277 on the rdll[ while ' the average was only 190. He did not think this was very satisfactory;:—lnspector Bindon stated he had reported on the ventilation m the Infant room as being bad, but he could not speak as to the other portion. Left to the Inspector to report on.
