Testing Wet Powder.

A settler named Hoffman, while clear- , fl v ing his land near Masterton this morn- \. ing, borrowed a keg of powder to burst ';;. the stump.: He. was .-told it was wet, and incautiously set fire to it to test it. He is now minus his whiskers, beard, eyebrows and lashes, and is nearly scalped, his clothes are burned off. It is believed bis injuries will not prove serious.
