The Mysterious Dleappearance of a leung Lady from Napier.
FUETHEE PARTICULARS. 'V A DISCREDITABLE AFFAIR. I [Napier News.], A young lady aged 17, disappeared o*£% Wednesday last, and though the mattwP'"" was placed m the hands of the police, no trace of her could he found until this morning, when she was restored to her \ relatives. The affair concerns the most" ;: pretentious circles of local v society," and certainly reflects no credit upon th«m»^ As near as we can gather the particulars I are as follows : — The young lady whose disappearance caused so much anxiety, arrived here from Auckland some threeI weeks ago, and at once began attending; one of those palatial establishments provided by the taxpayer for the '• higher ??> mis-education of the children of thoseAM. who are willing to pose as genteel paupers and turn out their sons and daughters as completely equipped and ready furnished snobs, at the expense of the lang-suffering ratepayer. Well, the young lady, though of irreproachable family— a family which has won an honorable place m the martial arinal* of the empire— was not m the habit of dressing m the very extreme of fashion which the young snobbesses around her affected, and was m consequence made; % butt of by them. Ridicule and contained '" ly were heaped upon her by the buddinr aristocrats, until the poor girl's life was made unbearable. Naturally ofasensr. f tive disposition she allowed the persecu- 1 tion to which she was subjected to prey upon her, and when on Wednesday morning the climax was reached, she took advantage of the luncheon hour to flee from the school which the cruelty of her schoolfellows rendered unendurable. JSince that time she has wandered about Napier and the Petaue Beach, until the police, getting upon her track, she wag restored to her friends. We trust that the present exposure, so unpleasant to ' all concerned, may lead to ultiiuate good m the improvement of the at present-, and for some time past, very lax disoip. . line of the institution m question. .
