The pleasing reflection that Palmewton. bad as times were, did not number among its local institutions a pawnbroker's establishment, can now no longer be indulged m. We can but regret t.at prominent among the business signs m the town, is to be tho *' three balls " usually indicative of the tact that' hard times, poverty, and destitution are not unknown m the community. So far as we are aware Palmerston is the only town between Wellington and Auckland which can boast (?) of , a pawnbroker's establishment among its other business undertakings. We lcain that Mr Akers is sending over a number of his pnre-bred rants toBulls for private sale. They will be on view at the yards of the Criterion Hotel., on Monday and Tuesday, where intending purchasers can examine tho stock for themselves and make their selections. Mr Akers' rains have always been m favour with breeders, and no doubt a. number of them will find purchasers among the residents of the Rangitikei district.
