Wesleyan Conference.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.") Christchurch, Tuesday. The oiilinary service m connection with the Wesleyau Conference waR held last eveninej m the large Weßleyan Church. The congregation was large. The char^edelivered to the Rrvs. Johns and Christoffersen (the candidates for ordination) by the Rev. R. Bavin, was based on Hebrews, xiii. — 17. It was a comprehensive and {.r.\cticel discourse, delivered m a fluent and pleasing style, and gained the admiration of both ministers and laity. The unanimous thanks of the Conference were given to Mr Bavin. The Rev O. Dean passed m his year as a probationer.' Tha annual pastoral address as revised was adopted. Arrangements were made for the ordi- , nation of the Maori ministers m the North at an early date. The lay representatives took their seats at 3.30 with the ininistets, aud were cordially welcomed by the President, -who stated that tie trusted that with the minimum of speech the maximum of business might be dispatched during their sittings. . The matters claimiiig special ttteution wouli be the subject of higher education, \y<u'uh now presiad uponr the < .-attention,: ot the Church; the, homo mission fun I; thej quostion ■of social purity, on .- which! there -were } strong resolutions trom three districts, which indicated that thn church m the colonies was prepared, to takp the. front p_oiitioa she^had done m this matter m England ; their contiexional organj which had : done such valuable service, would . also^ demand their consideration. It was also resolved that the Standing* Ordern of last year be' adopted, and that all Bittings be open to the public.
