The Severed Hand Mystery.
(UNITED PEEBB ASSOCIATION.") . . Chbistchurch, Tuesday. ' The severed hand case was adjourned at affout 4.30 to day until 10 a.m. tomorrow. Thirry-one witnesses • have .been examined, from whose evidence it appears that Godfrey made three statements as to finding the hand. Ist, that he. found it himself; 2nd, that it was shown to him by one Watson ; and 3rd, that a strange man apparently disguised pointed it out. Howard had admitted to Constable O'Eourke that. he had been m Christchurch on December 16th, and had said that he intended to go to California and thought there would be no more about it. It was proved that he was hanging? about Taylor's Mistake for over an hour on the day when the Godfreys were there, but nothing was adduced proving actual collusion between him and' them. The fact that Howard, endeavoured to get James Beard to help him to exhume a body at Masterton was proyed.
