The Howard Case.

He stated that the prosecution would show that ,the. female prisoner was not Howard's wife^; ; "that* Howard had' i met the "Godfrißys 1 'at Tavlbr's ; Mistake i on the day when the hand was found ; that'wljen Godfrey-rue'tf his „ brother at the police station 'he said— " HuUb/Fren*, you had better make a clean breast of it." The evidence of the first half-dozen witnesses proved that Howard took . out policies m the offices , named, and had transferred them to, Mrs Howard, and that the money payable under them haei been claimed by hen James Sheriff stated thiit on the 16th ot December Howard came to the Suinner Batbg and said that a hand had been f ound at Taylor's Mistake by the Godfreys, who bad called his^ttentionjto^ it, ..and that they had askea4iim:to ttelejjrapli to the police,' saying thai; they were doming 1 with tW hand. ;The remainder of the evidence proved that Howard was at i Sqmoer on the 10th October, the clothes being found on the beach next day.
