DISTRESS FOR RENT.
An Act to amend the law of distress for rent came into force at the beginning of the year. The prpvisions of -the .measure alter the previous ,law m many respects. The first alteration is a provision that " No-perssn sh|ll be entitled to distrain, at any one 'tiiue, for*mofe lhan twelve, mon^hs^ renjb, nor Jbe "entitled -to Successive distresses .taken.'* provision of the new Act is : " The personal and family clothing, the bedclothes, bedding, and tools of trade, to an amount not exoeeding twenty-five pounds, are hereby declared to be absolutely exempted from being sold or disposed of under any distress for, rent, provided that the tenant, or person m the possession of the -.messuages or lands m respect of which the distress has been taken, gives up possession of ffie same, if demanded by the landlord .or his agent." . personal property let out on hire, • i the»cbri-< sent of the landlord, is exempt from ' distress, likewise all goods warehoused for safe custody, and all goods held for < purposes or repair of : manufacture. ;, : ■
