The Colllngwood Bank Robbery.

(united pbess association ) -■:l ■', • : Melbourne, Jan. 12. , During the attempted bank robbery at Collingwood Mr Hill did not flinch, but seizing a reyolver; . which lay handy aatt * t tacked the intruders with the butt end. Amazed at his resistance the' robbers made off, but just as they got to the door, Mrs Ravenscrof t, the landlady of the premises which the bank temporarily occupied, entered the room, and Mr Hid, firing at them, shot her; m the forehead, killing her instantly. Mr Hill and the passers by succeeded m capturing one of the robbers, but the others escaped. The one who was .captured turns out to be a 'youth under 21 named' Hopkins, who is of idle, dissolute character. Much sympathy is expressed with the relations of Mrs Ravenscrof t, who was highly respected m the neighborhood. It is understood that tlie four men will <be arraigned for manslaughter. Mr Hill states that the men lin.il one .revolver, a crowbar,' and a hatchet between them. They all set ,on him, bub he managed to seize the revolver, and fired two shots, one with fatal consequences.
