Fire.

; , ♦ . ; The fire bell rang out an alarm this morning at 10 o'clock when it was found on enquiry that the Fitzherbert Bridge was m danger from fire. Members of our new Fire Brigade were soon got together and proceeded to the Bridge with what appliances they could procure. On arrwafy however i$ was found that all danger had been" Averted. It would appear that'one side of the bridge had ignited from some unknown cause, probably through a match thrown carelessly on the woodwork. Mr W. Leigh who was passing the bridge was the first to notice the danger and give the alarm. He, however, with the assistance of Mr Evans land Mr Rosenthal succeeded m extinguishing the fire before it had time to get any hold. Quite a number of people-proceeded to the bridge on the alarm being given, but everything was over before they arrived.
