Present — His Worship the Mayor, and Messrs West, Kerslake, Tingey, W. Leighj Dixon, Hosking, Armstrong, and later on Messrs Haultain, Jolly, Haybittle.jE. On the motion of Mr Dixon it wa* resolved to; accept the offer with than.es. The following officers were then elected to hold tenure for 12 months : — Captain-r-Proposed by Mr Kerslake seconded by Mr Leigh that Mr West be elected.-4-Carried. Lieute'nant —^Proposed by Mr Fergmon second by Mr West that Mr Twgey be elected.-i-Carried Foreman Hook and Ladder CompanyProposed by'lCr'Tihgfy seconded by Mr-* Haybittle that Mr Leigh be elected. It was considered unadvisible to elesfc ;Mr Leigh a^%e J lived out of town a gooddistance. ■....-■ The following resolution was therefore put and carried :— Pjcoposedbv Mr ,W«st, seconded by Mr Hawkins that Mr Eawlins be electel Foreman Hook and Ladder Company. Foreman Hose Company. — Propose 1 by Mr West, seconded, by Mr Tingey, that Mr Leigh be elected.— Carried. Secre tar yr-^Som.e difficulty was foruied m securing an eflficient secretary a number of names were mentioned but refused and ultimately Mr E. Johnstone was unanimously elected, it being his own suggestion that; the post , should be a purely hohary one. He was proposed by the Mayor, and seconded by Mr Kerslake. ; - ; Mr Haybittle jun. handed m his name as a working member. Me engines His Worship stated that as -jthey all jknew the. Company . had author,'ised the jpurchate of three engines. He had received^ a • letter; stating ;that one was sent from' Christchufch and on theJ receipt of that one the Brigade would be .^able.to form a good idea of the capabilities fat the appliance. It might be found advisable to get one of. another construction. " He had o'rte which was being aY tered and:as sppn >as jready., would be at the service of the brigade. He also be lievedthat Mi* S. Abrahams , had one which he would also place at their disposal then would then have five* m all. He should suggest that one : should be placed at the Ten-ace End, two m the S.quare, and two outside the town as considered best. V The^ Brigade, would have to appoint* two members fin the Executive Committee, and he would ask those present to nominate them to-night. ■■ • ' Mi Dixon proposed, that • Messrs Kerslake and Haybittle be elected.— Carried* Messrs Tingey and E.
