It i 3 said 1 that the .severed hand is m Masterton m charge of. Detective O'Connor, who is 1 up f rono. Ohristchurch. All the .facts are being kept secret by the police officers, as they want to capture the local accom •' plices of the Howards. It is expected that a further development of the case will be made to-morrow, when tlie full particulars will be published. Thursday. This morning ;the police authorities made an application to exhume the body of Mr Raynej, who died at Masterton m November, as it is believed the hand found at Sumner Beach was cut from' his body. The necessary authority was given. • ■ ■ ; Christohurch, Thursday. It has transpired that the body of female lunatic who died at Sunny side Asylum early m October arid 1 buried m Addington Cemetery was exhumed before daybreak on Monday last to ascertain whether the severed hand had been obtained from it. The corpse, however, was not mutilated.
