Continuous heavy rains are falling m the Colony, and the bush fires are being extinguished m consequence, but great damage has been; done ,by > them m the western district of Victoria, many settlers being completely burnt out. Men employed at the flour mills at Melbourne demanded a reduction to 8 hours per diem or total 48 hours weekly. Masters are yielding to' requests of men. The Premier, the Hon. James Service has . addressed : a cirular to Governments of the Various colonies, urging necessity' for united action m the direction of securing a reduction pf duties charged on Australian wines imported into England.
