Disastrous Bush Fire at Stratford.

■ About 29 houses have been destroyed by a bush fire which swept into the township of Stratford, north of Hawera, yesterday afternoon. • The scene was a most distressing one. Women and children Were removed by train, leaving the men to subdue the fire. The town hall succumbed to the flames, but the principal stores and hotel are saved. The railway bridge though charred, is not destroyed.
