(united press association.) Brisbane, Dec. 15. The Customs launch, with Dr McCartney, left the Custom* Wharf on Friday m order to visit -the Rome which ar rived during the night from London. Dr McCartney went, presuming that Dr Ridcewav, the Health Officer, who had been aboard the Dornnda, would not attempt to mix with the public. Dr Ridgeway, however, persisted m going to the Rome, but was refused to be taken by the captain of the launch, who stated that Dr Ridgeway should be quarantined , After some altercation, Dr Lawford, assistant medical officer, gave a clean bill to the Rome, and the passengers landed under protest from Dr RMgeway. Much dissatisfaction is expressed at Dr Ridgeway being allowed on board after his visit to the Dorunda. Dr Hickling, of the Dorunda, reports that thepe was no sickness until the vessel's arrival at Batavia. No fruit or water was taken aboard at that place, but the first symptoms occurred 11 days after leaving Batavia. The German steamer Papua ran ashore at Osprey Reef, and ia completely wrecked. Captain Steward and four of the crew arrived at Cooktown on Sunday m a whaleboat.
