The visit of St. Leon's circus to "Wellington recalls a small chapter of early Wellington history. About 30 years ago Foley's Australian circus pitched their tents on the first piece of reclaimed land at the rear of Willis-street, the circus being the first that had then visited the v fishing village," as it- was sometimes termed, of Port Nicholson St. Leon's circus is now pitched on a piece of the recently reclaimed land, m front of the spot where Foley delighted the first generation of young Wellingtonians. Poor old Foley died recently after a chequered career m many lands. The body of the unfortunate man Waters, who was drowned m the Rangitilcei river about four months ago, was discovered on Monday afternoon by some Maoris. The body was found lying high and dry on the bank of the river, some distance below where the fatal accident occurred. Messrs R. & E. Tihgey are painting the goodshed at the FeiMing railway 6ta- * tion, which is now almost complete. . It. is needless tq say that they are making a good job of it.
