The insurances are not known. The latest news Bays that the township is m great ! danger. ! A serious accident to the Taupo coach occurred yesterday afternoon. While going down a steep cutting to the MohakiT river the coach capsized. No further particulars are to hand except that the drivni 1 , Griffiths, i 6 reported to be nearly dead, and several passengers seriously injured. Medical assistance has been sent up. j Dunedin, Tuesday, j Mr Bills has brought by the Tainui 88 English robins m addition to a large number of other birds. The Colonial Secretary visited the Seacliffe Asylum yesterday, and founds j portion of the northern wing sadly m need of repair. Hokitika, Tuesday. The manager of the Humphrey's G.ully Company reports having washed up 300oz Rliowxnjj an improvement over the previous washing. Sluicing will be resumed after the holidays. The extension of the race to Stoney Creek is progressing > satisfactorily. The increased water supply will be available m February. Invercabgill, Tuesday. The weather having been very dry for weeks past, accompanied by high winds, bush fires are numerous, and are doim* great damage. Yesterday the house of Mr Ballantyne and about 70 acres of grass for seed were destroyed by fire, which had spread from adjoining sections on the East road. The house was insured for £100. AnotSer fire at Georgetown, Seaward Bush, threatens to spread to a settler's house. Yesterday the wind blew very" strong from northwest for some heurs, the dust m town 'suspending business. Rain afterward fell tor a short time, but the weather is again fine, with westerly winds. Chbistchcrch, Tuesday. The weather yesterday was excep: tionally hot, the thermometer registering at one time 115 m the sun and 90 m the shade. A boy, 9 years old, son of Mr Robert Cotton, of Lyttelton, fell off the breastwork into the sea yeßterday, but was pluckily rescued by Robert Keetley, who sprang m after him. ' Auckland, Tuesday. A prospecting party is about to start for the King country, hacked up by j Auckland speculators. A free fight occurred at the Ofcatuhu race meeting over the running of Snake m the Railway Plate. The rider, George Laing, was struck ; and Le Sueur, a bookmaker, and Dan O'Brien, the horse owner, wlio were m the scuffle, got roughly handled.. .?'.
