The enormous wealth accumulated by the Manchester Unity and Odd Fellows is shown m the Financial statement of the Order for the year ending December 31, 1884. Including the subsiduary funds, amounting to i' 301,788, the total accumnlated capital of the Order at the above date waa £5,732.799, of which £5,569,850 belonged to the sick and funeral, and £168,448 to district funeral funds. These figures show an increase for the past year of £213,200, and yield an average of £9 16s per member, which njakes the body tua wealthiest friendly society m the world. The " annual income last year was £840,526, of which the sum of £619,378 9s lO<l was from members' contributions, £211,112 from interest, and £10,035 from initiation fees. On the other hand, the payments only amounted to £585,714, of which £467,807 was for sick benefits to members, and £117,847 for funeral payments on the death of members. Accordingly there was a surplus of £254,811 to be added to the accumulated capital. The above returns relate to 4.284 lodges, with 533,850 members ; but there are m addition 8,721 members belonging to Home and Colonial lodges from whom the necessary returns have not been received.
