i I (UNITED TEBBS ASSOCIATION.) . Christchukch,. Monday. Two bathers named Godfrey have bfeen arrested m cohnectioni with 5 the Christchurch mystery, re the fipding iof the dead hand. The charge is of conspiring to defraud the Governmerit Insurance. Department of £IQOO, the lUutiial Life Assurance of Australasia 1 of and the Accident iQsnrahce Oom.pany of £400. These sums . represent the amount for which Howard had been imsured m the respective companies. :It is? presumed that' the Hbwafds: are acting.in colusiou with. Mrs Howard, though no proof of this is forthcoming. Thejinquest on the hand, was held at the Clarendon Hotel to-day, when Mrs |. Howard and the insurance officers? were 'repr^serite^ by' cojinsel^; /^The inquiry has been,ad3ourned.fortwo wisieks^; but m the meantime the Godfreys will !be brought before- the Resident Magistrate's Court, and possibly some more light will be thrown upon this very peculiar case.
