Pohangina Reef Meeting.
The meeting called for Saturday last to receive the report of Messrs Anderson, Keif, and Armstrong, was held at the Secretary's office. Not a single member of the association or anvof the public put m an appearance, excspting the gentlemen above named and the reporters. The following report, was however read by the secretary : — Gentlemen, — I made an inspection of the reef m the prospector's claim, and the work done thereon on the 15th and 16th of this month. I found an. adit level taken m from the back of the stream for a distance of 40 feet, calculated from the first timber set • to the forebveast m the reef. This level is gubstantiatially timbered throughout As. bearing upon remarks expressed at a former meeting, I would state that owing to the loose and dangerous nature of the face of the hill entered upon, the close timbering and packing up of the adit level from the commencement of drift the was a wise precaution and would have been obligatory under the Miners Regulations Act. The reef as seen m the forebreast is clearly defined, about 6£ feet wide with regular walls made up principally of a quartz vein with chocolate colored patches four feet three inches thick. The remainder ot the width is made up of shall and quartzite. In the latter a white quartzite branch has a;one done m the floor of the level and another branch is apparently making above. On the hanging wall is a regular fluken course. or "pug." I obtained and brought down with me samples of each of three portions of the reef, which may safely be* -taken as re. presenting affair and' correct average. — I haye &o.i E. J. Armstong. Mr Belf was asked to make a statement, but said he had nothing to say beyond the fact that he entirely endorsed lithe statements, made by Mr Armstroug i ;in his report. The secretary stated that ! he,- had been to Feilding and seen Mr Mkcarthiir re the La Monte process. He .found that it was not feasible to send [away 'a" small quantity of stone. Mr ;Cavthew had suggested that a certain ; amount of r stone should be arushed here I and part forwarded 1 to Mr Wolf at the 'Thames, the remainder to Mr Black at Wellington.' i The Chairman proposed that lOlbs of ieachclass.slibuld be crushed, mixed to- , jtogetheV'and sent away to' the gentlemen -named. '■' The secretary stated to the meeting ;that out of seven of the companies who 'had promised to subscribe towards ex Senses, only '6 had paid np. The cost of | wages tip ts date was £42 10, carriage 'for pack hor<*e« &c. T. Nelson, £5 9s 6d ; •Mr Armstrong's fee,^2g. He had ; written to .defaulting . companies four Itimes without' succ^ssl -If/aIP who had Iprpuiised would \pay up there would be to meet expenses. ' .. . \ \The,Chairman said.-that ths companies jhad signed the agreement and they ■ would have to pay up:- Further he believed that the work done by Messrs JAnJerson: add ' RelF wast veil and Ithoroughly'done, and most satisfactory. jThev had also taken care to carry out ;their duties m accordance with the Mines ■Regulations Act,- so that nothing wouid result to affect the Company's position ma legal point of Mew. The Chairman Ihen put the resolution, adding to it that ho r further work should be done until the' results of the assays be received; the same was carried: unanimously. ■: j A letter was read by the Secretary from Mr Macarthur stating that the application for subsidy would; be heard at the next meeting of the Kiwitea Road Board, and* he would send a reply at once. 1 The meeting then adjourned.
