The following petition has been sjgnecl by 57 of the unemployed, which is to be forwarded to the Victorian Legmlature : — " Sir, — We, the undersigned, being m ever) 7 Bense of the word genuine working men able and anxious to obtain employment, having been miserably betrayed by fake representations of New Z% aland immigration agents, lecturers, and printed pamphlets, threw up situa-
ions, broke up homes, and le ; loving friends, and are now facing ti; bitter reality m parading the streets hungry and ill shod with no prospects oca better future. We do humbly besee -li you to take into your favourable consecration our wretched lot, and afford us vi opportunity of coming across to ymr prosperous and protected colony, vliere we may live, and not starve. \V ; would humbly suggest to you that arra i^oiuents could be made with the Union S.S. Company to convey as many of us and our families as yon may deem fit and proper, and we solemnly promise to re-pay the expanse incurred by weekly instalments as we earn wages or perform work for your Government, and allow you to do duct from our wages such amount* as will soon repay the expense incurred.
