Fridaj. This morning the Primate laid the foundation stone of the new buildings at Christ's College. At the distribution of prizes which followed the Governor delivered a speech. A ring on the hand found yesterday at Snmner has been identified as haying belonged to Arthur Howard, supposed to be drowned there on October 11th. Hia life was insured for £2400. His Excellency the Governor m hit speech at the presentation of prizes at Christ's College to-day, referred to the fact that the House Government . had shown their appreciation of the system of education adopted m the Australian Colonies, including New Zealand, by of« fering the members of the Universities the right to compete for commissions m the Royal Engineers, and he trusted thai the one who would be appointed from this Colony would do honour to the University. Napier, Fridsy An information for criminal libel has been laid against T. G. Sawkins, editor of the Eveniny News, for remarks m an article on a case of alleged indecent assault.
