A Recreant Rector.

[Per Mail Steamer.] In Plymouth, England, on sth November, the Rev. Stewart Ross, formerly rector of Christ Church, Belfast, Ireland, was addressing the Plymouth Young Men's Christian Association, when Mr Charles Joy, Canadian Emigrant Commissioner, hurst into the room and shouted — "You hypocrite ! You eloped with my wife !'' Mr Ross turned pale, and fled from the room. The audience were surprised and excited, but the moment they realised what waa the matter, they became a howling mob, arid pursued their lecturer for a mile, yelling all the time. At thin point Ross, who was breathless and driven to bay, turned suddenly, and stabbed two of the most active pursuers. The others coming up at the time seized and disarmed the murderous rector. The police then put man appearance and arrested him. He was taken hefore the Magistrate, when several charges were lodged against him, and he was remanded for a week, without bail. It has transpired that Robs disappeared from Belfast two years ago, leaving his wife unprovided for. Mrs j Joy was found m prisoners' lodgings. When informed of Ross' arrest, ahfl gloried m her connectio^-with " the Lord's annointed" as vhe called him. She attested m Court, and sat m a brazen manner throughout the whole proceedings.
