LOCAL AND GENERAL.
We remind our readers of Messrs Snelnon and Co.'s important sale of valuable properties to take place on Saturday next at 2 p.m. In view of the forthcoming general election, candidates and intending candidates m Wellington are already flying round canvassing, or " working up" constituencies. They are surely taking time by the forelock. Messrs Snelson and Co. will auction the racing privileges m connection with Boxing Day meeting on Saturday. They will be sold,"we understand, without reserve. And yet another plague has made its appearance m gardens and nurseries. This time it is a Einull brown beetle that attacks the apple trees. Mr Stum has never seen the species before m Hawke's Bay. He has brought a number of specimens of the pest m a bottle and probably at the Philosophical Society's meeting to-night there will be something- said about them. — Telegraph.
