THE PURE-BRED CLYDESDALE HORSE Watchman. foaled Ist November, TT 1878, and is now rising five years old ; sire Fowler's Wallace, dam Maaigie ; is a rich brown, is 1(5 £ hands high, has a clean, flinty bone and vice hair, and is very active. His sire, the pure imported Clydesdale horse, Fowler's Wallace, bred by Mr Donald McKinley, Wouldham Hall, near Gloucester, out of a pure Clydesdale mare, bred by Mr J. N. Fleming, ' Campbelton, Scotland ; her sire, the celebrated horse Lofty Wallace, gained several first prizes before leaving the Old Country. Maggie was bred by Mr Sutherland. Taieri, Otago, out of a Napoleon mare, by Sir William Wallace (imported). Sir William Wallace bred by' William Auderson, Esqr, Kirkmichael, Ayrshire, out of Brisk, by Garibaldi. As a yearling took first prize at Maybole, Kirkmichael, and Glasgow, and second at Ayr. As a two-year-old, second at Ayr and Glasgow, and also second at the Highland Society's Show held that year at Edinburgh ; and when only three days landed m Otago took second prize against horses of all agos at the Taieri, although only 2£ years old. Totara is by old Diomed(nß,out of Wa,imea,bySir Hercules, out of Flora McTvor, by Emigrant. Old diomedes by Hesperus, out of Diomedie by Weatherbit. Old Diomedes was the sire of Kapapo, Malvina. Kcnnomy, and Parawhenna. Wnimea, the dam of Manuka, Papapa, Puriai, and VVaiuui, all ot whom have won several important races on the turf. Plover, by Sir Hercules ; Plover, the dam of Malvina, Hercules, Dan O'Connell, and other fast horses. Diomedes was awarded first prizQ* at the Wangauui A. aud P. Association's Show as a sire best calculated to improve the breed of saddle horses. ; Diomedes is a rich bay with black points, standing IG£ hands high, with immense bone aud muscle, good action, is 7 years old, and is considered to be one of the best cross- country horses m New Zealand.
