In a Supreme Court case at Napier it was found that some necessary notice had not been served, and his Honour the Chief Justice blamed the counsel, Mr Bochfort, for the delay thus caused. Mr Bochfort urged that if he were blameable it was for supposing that certain people would act as they ought to act. His -Honour — •' Yes; but you ought to know that lawyers never do that." If there be any truth m such a statement, the fate of the Canal will not wait long on the public for subscriptions, for its financial success will be immediately secured.
