Hawera Stock Quotations.

NOLAN TONES & CO.'S REPORT.

At Messrs Nolan. Tonks, & Co.'s usual monthly sale at Hawera on Thursday, m addition to the 800 bullocks advertised by Mr Thos. Scott, a large number of othor good cattle came forward, about 500 2^ to 4-yr-old bullocks being yarded besides several lots of other cattle. Almost every pen was quitted at the hammer, at prices showing a drop of from 5s to 10s a head as compared with the highest rates recently reached ; this fall being doubtless due partly to the con • tinuance of fine weather, and partly to the extremely low figures offered for beef Mr Scott's cattle sold from £5 5s to £5 13s for forward 3 to 4-yr old bullocks, one pen of 2^-vr-old steers realising- only £4 7s 6d.~ A pen of 60 3i*o j 5-year-old store bullocks m good comii- j tion belonging to another owner fetched | £5 5s ; 2-yr-old steers m low condition fetched £8 5s ; a small lot of medium fat bullocks fetched £2 12s ; cows sold for £2 17s; yearling, £1 4s 6d. The i sheep yards were well filled with sheep of a good class, but prices offered were lower than we have seen on this coast during the past five years One pen of store fat wethers fetched 6s lid ; good newly-shorn ewes, fair mutton were passed at the hammer at 7r ; hoggets m wool,- 8* 6d, were the beßt bid. Low as these offers were, we were assured they were better than Wanganui values. Several of the chief buyers came from Wanganni and Bangitikei districts, and they app3ared well satisfied with their purchase.*. At recent Hawera sales there has been a sprinkling of strangers, most of whom have come- tip by train to visit the sales. The attendance was large. — Hawera Star.
