The ramblers of Ouiaha have made a proposition to the city that if they are not interfered with for one year they will pay for all street improvements, and keep up the waterworks. A recent report of the French Minister of Public Instruction shows that m Jan-, vary last 23.222 schools had a schools savings bank, and that 488, G24 schoolboys were depositors m these banks, and possessed there the sum total of £451,400. We (Post) learn that the first lady to volunteer for work m the Zenanas of India m connection with the newlyformed Baptist Missionary Society of New Zealand is the eldest daughter of James Fulton, Esq., M.H.R. Driver, of Wellington, is secretary to the Society, and will gladly receive any contributions m aid of its noble enterprise. The New Zealand lauded estate is thus summed up : "The total area of New Zealand is upwards of 60,000,000 acres. Of this 18,000,000 have been sold and disposed of m education and other public reserves ; 14,000,000 belong to the aboriginals, or to Europeans who ha'C purchased from them ; and 84,000,000 acres of Crown lands still remain for disposal. Of the latter, 15,000,000 are open grass or fern country, 10,000,000 forest, and 9,000,000 of barren mountain tops, lakes and worthless country." I
