A SUNDAY VISIT TO THE RACECOURSE.
[By Looker-on.] Arising at a:i early hour yesterday morning, I uwk a stroll down to the Palmursfon nwoiirse, and was much surprised f->r my morning's walk. Arriving on the <•:> u:<e, I found about fifty or sixty ge.ntJomen there, the attraction being a race once round the course for £10 a-side between Mr Qninlivan's Lazy and Mr Buick'a : - Voltaire. Before the event came off, a foot race ol: 100 yds between Messrs Jackson, Archer, Cotlopy, and Oliphant, took place, and resulted m a victory for the form jr. The following horses, which were present, did very fair work, viz : — The Painter, Gwendoline, Eccleston, Go Slow, Lady Bab, Wilberforce, and one ior two others. Shortly after 7 a.m. Mr IT. Jordan, wiio acted as starter and ' clerk of the course (the latter position lie filled by keeping the course clear of the sheep, as the public were unanimous m patronising tho grand-stand), got the horses off well together. Although Voltaire pulled up well, Lazy maintained the lead from start to finish, winning hard hell. Time, 2tnin. Siecs. The weight being lOsfc up. Voftaire was ridden by Mr T. Cranwell, and Lazy by its owner. The betting at th© start was 3tol on the pony. The company then [ returned, some by Messrs Fonton, Brown, and Goodison's vehicles, and the others im horseback, m time for half-oast eight breakfast, and so ended the morning's outing.
