The Dunedin Unemployed.
(UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION.) Dunedin. Thursday. Several meetings of unemployed were held during yesterday, and a large number waited on the Mayor asking him to communicate with the Government for the purpose of securing work. The Mayor consented to telegraph, and did so, but as yet has received no reply. A meeting was held m the Theatre last evening when it was resolved to petition Government for work or assistance, or to leave the place and go where it could he secured. The meeting was addressed by a number of citizens, and Mr Bradshaw, M.H.R. The unemployed assert that at the present 250 are idle, but only about 200 were at the meeting-. Nnm- [ hero have been thrown out of work by the completion of the works which the Corporation and Harbour Board have been carrying on. A deputation is to wait on the Premier and members on their reaching Dunedin. Meeting's are to be held throughout the week.
