An enthusiastic meeting of miners and others was held last evening m connection with the School of Mines which it is proposed to organise m the district. Tn the Police Court yesterday, a member of the G Battery of Artillery was charged on the information of the commanding officer with being absent, from a Government parade, and was fined 5s and costs. ; Correspondence received by the Bluff Harbor Board from the General Manager of Railways shows that a considerable concession has been made m the rates for measurement goods on the Bluff- luvercargill line, j the maximum charge being now 15s 8d per ton, or double the charge for dead weight. Carting from the B'nff, however, is still going on. Close on 300,000 sacks of oats have been shipped from the Bluff this season. Captain Hallet, R.N., of the s.s.
