His sire, the pure imported Clydesdale horse. Fowler's Wallace, bred by Mr Donald Mclvinley, Wouldham Hall, near Gloucester, out of a pure Clydesdale mare, bred by Mr J. N. Fleming, Campbelton.. Scotland ; her sire, the celebrated horse Lofty Wallace, gained several first prizes before leaving the Old Country. Majrgie was bred by Mr Sutherland, Taieri, Otasro, out of a- Xapoleou mare, by Sir William Wallace (imported). Sir William Wallace bred by William Anderson. Esq., Kirkmichael, Ayrshire, out of Brisk, by Garibaldi. As a yearling took first prize at Maybole, Kirkmichael, and Glasgow, and second at Ayr. As a two-year-old, second at Ayr and G lasgow, and also second at the II ighland Society's Show held that year at Edinburgh ; and when only three days hmded m Otago took second prize against horses of all ages at the Taieri, although only 2.J years old. DTOMEDES is by Totara, out of Plover, by Sir Hercules. Totara is by old Dioinedcs, out of Wairnea,uySir Hercules, out of Flora Mclvor, by Emigrant. Old diomedes by Hesperus, out of Diomedie by YVeathorbit. Old Diomedes was the sire of Kapnpo, Malvitia, Economy, and Parawhemia. Wnitnea, the dmu of Manuka, Papapa, Puri'ai, arid Wainui, all ot whom have won several important races on the turf. Plover, by Sir Herculea ; Plover, the dam of Malvitia, Horcules, Dai> O'Conuell, and other fast horses. Totara, the Hire -of Longlauds, winner of the Great Autnmn Handicap, April, 1878, and 1879 ; also Volunteer, second iv the Champagne Stakes, and ran a dead heat with Mata for Queen's Plate m Dunedin, nnd won the Timaru Maiden Plate, 1£ miles, m 2ui. 45^8., and Flying Stakes, J mile, m lin. 17ia., at the Wellington Jockey Club Meeting, 1880 ; also Merlin, winner of the Spring Handicap at Wanganui ; also Totara, winner of the Rangitikei Hunt Club Steeplechase, Waverley Handicap Hurdle Race, and Manawatu Handicap Hurdles at Palmerston Diomedes himself is the winner of the Wanganui Welter Weight-for-age Hurdle liace, beating Reform, New Year, Dhudeen, Parnel], and Christmas ; won the Turakina Handicap Hurdles, beating a large field ; and ran a good third for the Wanganui Grand National Steeplechase, carrying 12st 71bs., giving' the winner, Ruahine, Ist slbs., and the second hor.se, Dhudeen, 2st 51bs., thereby showing that he is a weight carrier, and has exceptionally good staying power. Diomedes was awarded first prize at the Wanganui A. and P. Association's Show as a sire best calculated to improve the breed of saddle horses. Diomedes is a rich bay with black points, standing 16f hands high, with immense bone and muscle, good action, is 7 years old, and is considered to be one of the best cross-country horses m New Zealand. Diomedes will travel as under : Mondays— Ashurst, via Ashurst road. Tuesdays — Aehurst to Pahnorston. Wednesdays — Palmerston to Sandon. Thursdays — Bulls and Lower Rangitikei. Fridays — Halcdmbe.
