Manawain Road Board.

THIS DAY. Present— Wardens Snelson (chairman), Pratt, Sly, and Mathieson, CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was received from the Public Works Department, re grunt £4(12 for bridges on the Karere Roud under the Roads and Bridges Construction Act, and also re application for £550 to com plcte some of said bridges, received m June last. Tbe Department stated that its opinion was that the sum of £50,000 voted to complete works under the Roads and Bridges Construction Act covered the applications. The Property Tax Department wrote stating that a voucher for £375 had been sent to the Treasury on account of the Board, being an advance of 75 per cent, on account of subsidy under the " Local Bodies Finance and Powers Act." From the Crown Lands Department, re section 448, stating that Mr Hankins had applied for titles to be issued m favor of Mr Manson, part 1, and Mr D. L. Smith, part 2, and requesting the Board to int'orm the Department if titles should be issued to same. Secretary instructed to reply m affirmative. A letter was received from the Government stating that the grant for the Kairanga drain applied for had been agreed to, and the necessary forms for Board's filling m had been forwarded. From the Public Trust Office, re judgments of summonses issued before the fire, m reply to the Board's application for information m the matter. Resolved— That .Wardens Akers and Edwards be a committee to consider the matter. FITZHERBERT ROAD TO THE GORGE*. Correspondence on this question, being copies of letters sent by Dr Lemon to Mr Macarthur and Mr Cotter were read, also Dr Lemon's letter to the Board. Resolved— That the Manchester Road Board be written to, and a definite reply be reqaested as to that Board's intentions m the matter, and what they would be prepared to do m conjunction with the Manawatu Road Board. alteration bunnythorpe-oroua boundary line. The Manchester Board wrote offering to take over this road line on the understanding that the Manawatu Board agreed to subscribe half the cost of its construction. Resolved, oh the motion of Mr Sly— That before this Board commits itself to any course the Manchester Board be requested to supply this Board with an estimate of the expense to be contracted. MISCELLANEOUS. , The Hospital aud Charitable Aid Board wrote asking that the Board forward the sum of £21 18s 6d, being the proportionate amount due by the Board up to 31st' March, 1886. The letter j stated that, the annual cost of the Hospital wa5 "..81500. The claim now made was for Hospital, only as the Charitable Aid question was for the present m abeyance. Mr Andrewatha wrote and waited on the Board m connection with the matter of some most necessary expenditure on his road. The affair was referred to the Warden and Engineer to examine and report upon. Mr Thomas McEwan wrote requesting payment of £2 deposit not returned to him before the Town Hall fire. Resolved — That the amount be paid. The Borough Council sent m a claim for hospital expenses for Grinrod. It was resolved to refer the Council to the Manawatu County Council, as the accident took place m Otaki. Mr Matthew Hamilton wrote a long and abusive letter to .the Board, com plaining of unfinished and badly executed work constructed on his line. The writer I also waited on the Board m connection i with the matter, and after considerable conversation Warden Sly wished the deputation to state whether he would be willing to have the balance of the money voted spent. The amount voted originally had been £20, and _fc'l2 had been spent. Mr Hamilton replied that he did not wish to have the money thrown away ; the amount now required to be expended was £15 to .£lB, and nothing less would ho of any- use. The Board accepted this reply and the matter dropped. Warden Mathieson pointed out to the Engineer that A. Nathan's contract having been completed, it would be ad vis able to have the same examined at once and reported on. From the Treasury Department, stat inp that £400 had been ..remitted to credit of Board, being payment for land purchased for ballast pit by Public Works Denartment (section 387, Palmerston North.) From Crown Lands, stating that the Land Board had approved of the expenditure of' £296 7s, being accrued deferred payment thirds, as proposed m letter of 2nd September. [Left Sitting.]
