SURRENDER OF THE T&IHA, OR WAR SCEPTRE.
NO MORE FIGHTIN.N, (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, Tuesday. The Hon. Mr Ballance has received from Wahanui the Taiha, or Sceptre of War, of the IJgathnaniapotos, which m.- . dicates that from henceforth no bloodshed will take place between Europeans and the Waikato tribes. This Taiha is said to have been m the hands of the Ngatiinaniapotos for upwards of 100 years, and its passing out of the hands of these natives is- a matter of the highest importance. Mr Ballance intends to have the Taiha' Dlaced m the General .Assembly Library m the House of Representatives, as a token of the final withdrawal of the aukati by the Waikato tribes. Wednesday. The principal Eingifce chiefs have issued a manifesto addressed to Maories and Europeans, protesting against the gift of 400,000 acres at Rangitoto, made by the tribe of Ngatimakore to the Waikatos. - ;
