This was a splendid race, but had an extraordinary termination. On reaching thfl road the second time the horses were racing together closely, and from the stand the field appeared as if it was only one horse. The last hurdle was now before them, and as they approached Director could be seen drawing out. The horses took the jump pretty well together. The Druid got over safely, but Director struck the hurdle and broke down, Newman at once pulling np. Loch Lomond fell and threw Bishop, who soon remounted, and Macearoni went round the hurdle, but Lyford soon got him at it again and came m sgcond. Loch Lomond walked m, and Director followed suit. Time 4min 19sec. Dividend, £4 18s. ST. ANDREW'S HANDICAP. Grand Duke ... 1 The Poet 2 Salvage 2 Erebus and Normanby also ran. Rumour was scratched. Salvage was favourite. CONSOLATION HANDICAP. Fay 1 Capsize 2 Salvage 3 About £3300 was put through the machine, making £5500 m the two days.
