There is an enormous increase m the Tory vote at Birmingham. Mr Hennicker Heaton, of Sydney, who contested the Canter, bury elections m the Tory interest, has been returned by a majority of 979. The Tories still continue to gain advantage. ' ! i» Nov. 26. So far as the elections have a» yet gone, 71 have been returned ia. ; the fory interest;. Sir William Hicks-Beach, Sir Assheton Cross, and Sir William H arcourt have secured seats ; while Mr Childers, Mr Shaw Lefevre, and Sir Henry Drummpnd Wolff have been defeated. The have carried the whole of the Birmingham constituencies as well as the Portsmouth seat, while Conservative candidates -have been returned for Liverpool, Blackburn, Bury St. Edm>ntfs| prefer, Coven* try, Cheltenham;~Croyd|n, Colchester, Cambridge, Launcebtoh, Plymouth, Tauntoni Warririgfoh, Rochester, Staley bridge, Durham,: Brighton, Ponteftact, Reading, Salford, Stockport, . For the City or London Elector, ate (one member), the Right Hod. John G. Hubbard and Alderman Fowler ieaclv polled the same num. ber of votes, namely, 91. ' Conservative candidates have beeii generally successful m London Suburban Electorates, and Provinces. The Liberals have been elected for York, Salisbury, Boston,, and Edinburgh, while Conservatives have been successful at Bolton, Winchester, Norwich, Muhcastor, and Hull. At Leeds, out of five seafts returns show three Conservatives, while for Sheffield the following (Ive members have been/ elected :— Messrs Coferidge, Munella, Howard Vincent, Ashinead Bartlett, and Stewart Worthy. Mr Gladstone has been elected for Midlothian, and Sir Lyon Playfair for. Edinburgh: add St. Andrew's Universities.
