THE FORESTRY ACT.

Tn accordance with the provisions of the " Forestry Act," 1 ' passed last session, steps are being taken by the Government for the establishment of a School of Forestry at Whangarei, for which the Act provided an appropriation of £2000. A site has been selected consisting of 240 acres three miles out of the town, well situated for the purpose and with a rich volcanic soil. Although the proposed institution is denominated m the Act as a " School of Forestry,* 1 it is not intended to confine it to but one branch. It is proposed that it shall be an agricultural college, upon an experimental farm eipecially devoted to the growth of sub-tropical fruits, and the acclimatisation of such plants as seem adapted to our wants and climate. Such an institution (writes the Post) if properly managed, is sure to do much good, and its will be watched with interest.
