(PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) ; Auckland, Wednesday. As a result of the reoent police raid on restaurants and brothelkeepers fpr sly-grop selling, four offenders hare been fined. One Samuel Cox, a negro, was fined £50 and costs, or a month's hard labor, being his fourth conviction. The total fines paid by Cox on the four oases amounted to £130. Steps are being taken by his solicitor to appeal to the Colonial Secretary for remission of a portion of the fine, the Bench refusing the application. The twenty-second anniversary of the battle of Rangiri was celebrated at Hamilton by a dinner, at which sat down a number who were with the Imperial and Colonial troops. Dunrpin, Wednesday. . The exports of wool from Port* Chalmers and Oamaru for the twelve months, ending October, show that 67,921 bales were forwarded to London, being an increase of 1138 bales for Port Chalmers, and 4 646 bales for Oamarn over the previous year. 2319 bales of rabbit skins were exported, the number of skins being estimated at 6,957,000. Chbistchukch, Wednesday. William Ash, an employe of the Amuri Road Board, was drowned while attempting to cross the Waiau here en Monday. The body is not recovered. William Harrison, the owner of the house here m which the attempt at incendiarism ocourred on Monday night, was arre»ted yesterday morning and charged with arson.
