Pohangina Reefs.
The following letter has been forwarded to the Feilding Star lor publication :— , . f. ' D. H. ; Maoarthuh, Esq., ' Feilding^ '•" . '•• i Sir,— To-day i tested onn of th« pieces of atone, sent me by Mr Bartholomew, about the weight of four ounces* the result being almost half a grain of gold and, •ilVer mired. The stone never ■ : left Mr Aitken's hands till it was placed ' m the furnace, and he wasipresent-dur-ing the whole time the stone was being operated . on. He possesses the. metal, and he informs me he is going to send it to Foilding with all particul&rg. I was nnable to get sufficient heat m the furnace to gather all the metal into one pieoe, and had there been more heat the result would have been better. But as lam .having a large furnace built, the next tests will be more satisfactory. The color of the stone was a dark brown or chocolate, and showed only one spec pf metal previous to being tested. The result would be about seres a half ouneea to) the ton. Youlmow where the ston« : e»me : from, and if you sand up a prospector I would suggest that he examine the ' place well. .1 have sent job this in* formation as you wished, and will be glad to furnish you with aay details yon ; may desire, manner of treatment, or any - othn particulars. I luve got uome of the same stone left still, aod intend 'to'- 1 test the remaining portion of it.. /If at. any time you desire any specimens tested :,• I shall be glad to undertake it for you, - :- in the presence of yourself or any gentleiakn ryovl may mention.— -Yours, &c, John Forbes. . - Wanganfii, Nov. 18, 1885^. -
